There’s a park near my house with a large field where my daughter and I kick the soccer ball and fly kites.  Unfortunately, I must always remind her to be on the lookout for dog droppings.  The park has a free plastic bag dispenser specifically for dog owners, so I don’t understand why there are still so many “landmines.”   Maybe the park should just remove the plastic bag dispenser and replace it with this sign.  It cannot be any clearer.  I will send a message to the local parks & recreation people.

The Typoze.com founders will be in attendance at the annual American Copy Editors Society (ACES) conference in Phoenix. On Saturday, March 19, the team will present on the process of crowdsourcing errors and share their experiences with the design, development and promotion of a website aimed at readers who enjoy spotting typos in print.  Efforts to establish the website as a portal for book errata and ultimately a resource for publishers and authors will also be discussed.

Today’s featured book review was written by a Typoze.com member, Deletia. She recently read “The Great Typo Hunt, two friends changing the world, one correction at a time” by Jeff Deck and Benjamin D. Herson. Deletia also spotted several typos in the book which we’re sure the authors will be quite interested in knowing about!

I wasn’t sure a trip around the country to correct typos could provide enough material for a book; I was expecting a lot of before-and-after photos with some commentary. The journey made an interesting and entertaining story, though. As well as being a sharp-eyed editor, Jeff Deck is a really good writer. It’s obvious that he loves words, but he’s also a storyteller with a good sense of humor. I enjoyed reading about his typo-correcting quest with his friends, the various responses they encountered, and their own thoughts about it along the way.
